There’re a few essentials you need to look out for when choosing a TEFL course. Firstly, it’s important that you get an Ofqual-regulated course – this is basically an English Government stamp of approval, proving your course is of the highest quality. All of i-to-i’s TEFL courses are Ofqual regulated which means they’re internationally recognised and highly regarded – perfect for getting your dream TEFL job wherever you’re looking in the world. On top of this, you’ll also need to get at least 120 hours of training as a minimum – this is industry benchmark for employers around the world.
TEFL salaries vary depending on which country you’re wanting to teach in – but wherever you are, it’s always important to remember that the salary is relative to your location. So although some TEFL teacher salaries may look a lot lower than jobs in your native country, the cost of living will be equally as low, giving you the chance to save and live comfortably while you work. In some countries, you can earn up to £2,000 a month teaching English as foreign language!
Nope! One of the great things about TEFL is that you don’t need to speak a second language to teach English. All you need to be is a native English speaker with at least 120 hours of TEFL training.
With a TEFL qualification from an internationally-recognised provider like i-to-i, you’ll pretty much be able to teach around the world wherever you choose. Popular destinations for our graduates are Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and China, this is due to the relatively low cost of living for those wanting to travel and teach. There’re also plenty of opportunities to teach across Europe, such as Spain, France and Italy. If you like the idea of regularly moving around, teaching English online is a great way to fund a “Digital Nomad” lifestyle – giving you freedom to travel whenever and wherever you like (as long as you have a laptop and internet connection!)
Our customer team, including our resident Academic Director, will support you throughout your course, and after that you’ll have access to thousands of exclusive TEFL roles worldwide through our well-stocked jobs board!
Of course! There are lots of great roles available to TEFL teachers if you’re looking further ahead. Once you’ve got some initial TEFL training under your belt, the world is your oyster in terms of progression. We’ve seen our graduates progress to managing language schools, for instance, or become TEFL Course Designers (like our tutors!)
